Young Composers Project 2026
Registration Information

What you need to know for participation in the YCP:

Children in grades K-7 are eligible – and enrollment is limited.
Mentoring workshops will be held Tuesday February 17th, Tuesday March 10th, and Tuesday April 14th at Music Together Headquarters, Hopewell, NJ – younger children 4:30-5:30pm, older children 5:45-7pm.
Final workshop-rehearsal will be at Music Together Headquarters, Hopewell, NJ the evening of Monday May 4.
The YCP concert with VCNJ will be held at Music Together Headquarters Monday, May 11.

Parent or another adult must accompany the child to the workshop/s and the concert.

Compositions/songs
- Must have a vocal element, which may be performed by VCNJ or the child or both.
- Children will be mentored to create new works or develop pre-existing ones as part of the project. Compositions should be primarily the child’s creation, with facilitation by parents and/or music teachers, as needed.
- Compositions may include piano accompaniment, which will be provided for the concert performance (children may choose to play but that is not required). Compositions may include other instruments, and that must be arranged for by the young composer.
- As a learning experience, children are encouraged to invent their own notation, with traditional notation for performers supplied as needed by the children’s music teachers, parents, or YCP mentors (at minimal cost).
