Through the Choral Scholars Program, we provide performance opportunities to singers with music degrees who inspire our Chorale with their skills and training. This position offers a stipend and opportunities to perform exciting and varied repertoire, while providing musical leadership to the other members of their voice part. We are thrilled to have the following highly talented people as our current Choral Scholars.
Soprano: Alexandra Thomas
Alexandra Thomas has been Voices Chorale's Soprano Choral Scholar since the spring of 2022. She holds a BA in Vocal Performance from Westminster Choir College where she was a student of Dr. Kathy Price. She appeared as Emmie in the Princeton Festival's production of Britten's Albert Herring and as the Dew Fairy and Gretel’s Intern in Westminster Opera Theatre's production of Hänsel und Gretel. She sang with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin (Bach's Mass in B Minor) and Stéphane Denève (Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges). Alexandra has recorded twice with the Grammy nominated Westminster Williamson Voices: "Aurora" and "A Scattered Light in Winter" (on which she is a featured soloist) as well as with the Same Stream Choir: "A Time for Healing." When not singing, Alexandra enjoys spending her time enjoying good food, better company, and reading.

Alto: Julie Buehler
Julie Buehler is the Choir Director at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Somerset Hills. She previously served as the Choral Conducting Scholar and substitute conductor with the Hopewell Valley Chorus, and Operations Manager with the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County. Julie has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Puget Sound, a Masters in Education from the University of Houston, and an Associates Degree in Music from Bucks County Community College with further studies in Music from The College of New Jersey. She has studied choral conducting with Dr. Heather Mitchell since 2020. In her free time, she enjoys reading, fiber arts, and camping. A native Oregonian, she now lives in Frenchtown, NJ with her family

Tenor: Skylar Derthick
Skylar Derthick holds a BA in Music Studies and is currently pursuing an MA in Choral Conducting at Westminster Choir College. He has performed Mozart’s "Requiem" with the Pittsburgh Symphony and Orff's "Carmina Burana" at Carnegie Hall with St. Luke’s Orchestra. Recognized regionally for his talent in musical theater, he won Best Supporting Actor at the 2019 Seattle Fifth Avenue Awards. Skylar will soon take on the role of Alfred in Rider University’s production of "Strauss’ Die Fledermaus", and he also serves as the Tenor Scholar at St. Dominic’s Catholic Parish in Brick, NJ.

Bass: Lucas Heredia
Lucas Heredia is currently finishing two Bachelor's Degrees for Voice and Piano at Westminster Choir College at Rider University where he is studying with Dr. James Goldsworthy (for Piano) and Margaret Cusack (for Voice). Lucas has sung in many productions, including Princeton Festival's production of "I Am Harvey Milk" as a Bass singer, and is currently a singer in several critically acclaimed choirs such as Westminster Choir, Westminster Jubilee Singers, and Westminster Symphonic Choir. Lucas has also recorded two album sets coming out soon: "A Serenity of Soul" with Westminster Choir and "An Evening of Readings and Carols," which will also be televised on PBS.
